O Marpa the Translator, according to Thy Words Prophetic,

A teacher of the transitoriness of things I’ve found

Within my native land—prison of temptation;

And by Thy Blessing and Thy Grace, may I,

From this noble teacher, experience and faith obtain.

‘“All phenomena, existing and apparent,

Are ever transient, changing, and unstable;

But more especially the worldly life

Hath no reality, no permanent gain [in it].

And so, instead of doing work that’s profitless,

The Truth Divine I’ll seek.
